Increase in the guaranteed minimum national monthly salary and creation of an exceptional compensation measure

Decree-Law 109-B/2021, of 7 December, was published, approving the update of the minimum national monthly salary guaranteed for 2022.

As of 1 January 2022, the guaranteed minimum national monthly salary will increase from the current 665 € to € 705.

Employers, as well as individuals with one or more employees, are entitled to a one-off compensation of between € 56,00 and € 120,00 (depending on the salary of each employee).

The access to the compensation depends on the employer complying with the following conditions:

(i) Having, in the December 2021 remuneration statement, one or more full-time employees with a declared base remuneration from € 665,00 or more and less than € 705,00;

(ii) Having their tax and social security contributions situation regularized.

The compensation can be cumulative with other support measures, including those granted under the COVID-19 pandemic, and will be granted by IAPMEI or by Instituto do Turismo de Portugal through registration on the websites of these entities until 1 March 2022, under penalty of forfeiture of the right to the compensation.

Decree-Law 109-B/2021 will enter into force on 1 January 2022.
