It was published in the Portuguese Official Gazette, on April 7th, 2017, Decree n. 99/2017 which regulates the setting-up of Professional Traineeships measures, in order to support the integration of young people into their first job or the professional retraining of unemployed people.
The beneficiaries of these measures are, among others, (i) young people between 18 and 30 years old, holders of a minimum qualification, the 12th grade, and (ii) people aged from 30 to 45 that are unemployed for more than one year ago, and which have concluded the 12th degree for less than 3 years ago.
The duration of the traineeship will be 9 months, not extendable, guaranteeing the right to a monthly fellowship (whose value differs according to the trainees’ qualification level), food allowance and labour accident insurance.
The new measure creates a premium to employment, if the promoter entity enters into an open-ended employment contract with the trainee, within 20 working days after the end of the traineeship, of an amount equal to two times the monthly base retribution, up to the limit € 2.106,60, increased by 30% in certain circumstances.
